I am so thrilled to be sharing this client family room reveal with you all today!
What started as an instragram follower calling me in for a consultation to help her pick out some paint colors for her walls and built in's her brother in law would be building for her, turned into one of my most favorite full-service designs to date. I had such a wonderful time working with my sweet client and the result was so rewarding and so beautiful.
Her home was a decade old and was builder grade. The fireplace was drywall with a simple, smaller scale wooden mantel with old small tan square tile in the surround. As soon as I got a feel for her style I suggested doing a horizontal shiplap with sconces. My suggestions were instantly validated when she showed me several inspriation pictures she had saved that met that style to a T. We then proceeded to talk paint colors. We decided on two shades of gray by Sherwin Williams, Aloof Gray for the walls and Passive for the back of the built ins. Then one of my favorite whites for the builtins, Alabaster, which matched the creamier white shutters perfectly. (Shout out to her handy husband! He put up all the new trim around the doors and windows.)
Once the building of the mantel and bookcases were under way we we picked carpet, sconces for the mantel, tile for the surround and hardware. With those design elements wrapped up we parted ways and I was estatic to hear back from her a few weeks later when she asked if it would finish with the furniture and decor. You bet ya!
Her family was looking forward for some family time in here, making new memories and I knew the perfect sectional to place in here. There is a local company here in Salt Lake that carries this beauty. We were able to design it in store and had it custom made. This blue-ish gray fabric is the perfect addition in the room. We picked cleaner lines in the shape and kept the stitching pretty simple. It took 6 weeks to be made and delivered. Great turn around time and well worth the wait. Fits the space like a glove.
One of my favorite parts of this reno was being able to keep the existing banister and having the contractor built millwork over the dry walled load bearing post. Then doing the same by creating a box over the existing newel post and building a more meaty post. Then painting the baulters white and staining the banister made the old and dated blonde wood banister look brand-spanking-new!!!
Next up:
The furniture! I knew the banister wall couldn't be left blank, I thought about a bench for a quick second, but then found this gorgeous blue chair and new I could angle it towards the TV to create a perfect viewing spot for her kids. Who doesn't love a little extra seating anyway?!
Here a a few views of the rooms pretty furniture pieces...
Last, but certainly not least came the styling of the room. Styling bookcases has always been a favorite of mine!
Notice how the top of the glass door shelves were styled. We decided placing side to side a bunch of books with the bindings backwords would be a perfect way to add interest and dimension with out distracting from the shelves below.
Lastly here a few other favorite pics of the space, love the bright, soothing, yet refreshing palette of whites, grays, blues and mixed metallics.
Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed the tour! Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you liked it or if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Hello there! I'm thrilled to be sharing one of my favorite client remodels with you today! I have been working on this 1970's ranch style home here in Salt Lake for the last few years, doing one room at a time. It's now come to the fun part and we are doing some major renovations in the bathrooms and will be doing the kitchen here soon.
Sadly, we forgot to get a before picture before they started tearing everthing out. Just imagine a yellowy beige everything. The toilet was opposite of the window and it was just a poorly designed old looking bath. It is such a difference and I'm so pleased my clients family loves it as much as I do!
This bathroom is on their main level and will also serve as the guest bathroom when they have people over so, though her kids will be using this as their own bathroom, they wanted a sophisticated feel that would appeal to all ages.
We kept the palette light, bright and airy to give the illusion it is larger than it is.
The palette of whites, grays and pops of the faux greenery keep it such refreshing feeling.
We had the vanity custom made since the dimensions were not a normal size. We went with a white craftsman look, and kept the design simple, but added narrow draws for functionality. We got so much more storage out of this cabinet versus the old one.
We picked out this gorgeous granite from a local granite quarry. We were able to save some picking out a remanent. Thats a good tip to save on counters for bathrooms. Just google your local granite quarries and give them a call to see if they have anything that fits what you are looking for. We love the beautiful movement and charecture this one has and give so much personaltiy to this space.
We found all of the tile at our local
FLOOR & DECOR
They offer wholesale pricing to the public. I actually get better deals going there versus using my designer discount other places. I have used them on several design projects and love their selection and quality of products.
We went with a marble looking porcelian hex pattern for the flooring. We went with this option just for durablity sake. She has young children using this bathroom and though marble is gorgeous, it just wasn't practical for so much use. This gives the same look with out being so hard to upkeep.
The shower we went with a standard white subway with white grout.
The niche in the shower is a marble hex.
The grout on the hex tiles in the shower and the flooring have a Silver Grout.
We know subway tile appears to be super trendy right now, but it actually is very affordable and has been around forever and will be sure to keep this bathroom very timless looking.
We just adore the chrome design details and love the shape of the light fixture.
This paired with the round mirror give off a new england timeless vibe, which we love.
The other accessories were found at our local target. They always have such great decor finds!
My client was able to make these faux roman shades with THIS pinterest tutorial that we found. We just bought and extra shower curtain and it was simple easy and adds so much to the window, finishing off the space perfectly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this bathroom reveal. It was such a dream to work on and both my clients and I love the finished result. I'm finishing up her basement bath remodel soon and I can't wait to share that design with you.

Wall Color: Wash Basin by Kwal
They were bought out by Sherwin Williams,
but you can ask for this color at their store and they will have it on file.
After all the years I have been in the design industry and working as an interior designer I have come to a conclusion; I love budget friendly decorating. I like that I can make my own home and my clients spaces beautiful and high end looking with out needing to break the bank. With that being said, I also have come to being very loyal to a few select brands that offer just this... solid, beautiful pieces that are affordable.
One of these brands that I always seem to continually source and put in my own spaces and especially my e-design spaces is
They offer current yet timeless pieces that can make the perfect accent in a room or be the beautiful focal point.
One of my favorite items that they offer are bedroom furniture. Their night stands are my favorite! I was so pleased with the price and quality of my oval night stands in my master bedroom. I thought I was taking a risk buying them, expecting them to be flimsy at the affordable price point, but they exteeded my expecation by far... Very solid and sturdy and had a great white finish. I've now had them 2+ years and they are still in perfect condition.
Here is another gorgeousx-based nightstand in one of my clients master bedrooms. These are such a great scale, were easy to put together and such a pretty afterthought in this room.
In case you missed it, I shared my dining room last week, you can view that post
I have loved the creamywhite chairsI incoorperated in my design. I wanted more petite and modern looking chairs in white and fell in love with the look of these beauties, but even more so the price! They are a steal, and are much more sturdy than similar ones I had that fell apart last year. I love how the legs are a black metal and wont loosen over time.
I'm thrilled to be sharing my new dining room with you today. We moved into our "new-to-us" home this past summer. One of the rooms I was most excited about was a formal dining room. I know these rooms are on the out with most new builds, but for me this was one of the top three things I needed in a home. I grew up with the best memories around dining tables. I remember holiday and Sunday dinners with extended family and friends. I knew in this stage of life my family is in I wanted this room to hopefully create the same special memories I had for my own children.
So you can imagine how my creative juices just came flowing to me for this room the minute we got the keys. This was the first room I wanted to design, and what a joy it was to create.
You can view the "before" below. It was such a dark room. I found out from neighbors that not one owner in the last 20 years ever used this room as a formal dining room, always just a flex space. I knew that I needed to fix this asap. Keep scrolling to see this same view, all refreshed...
It really always amazes me what a can a paint can do for a space. I used my signiature paint color,
in a satin finish. This is with out a doubt my favorite paint color. It is a light gray paint that can read true gray, blue gray and then green gray in different times of the day. Because of that I never seem to tire of it. Aloof, the perfect name for it.
The next item that really brought life into this dining space was switching out the standard "boob" flush mount ceiling light for this gorgeous
This had been on back order right when we moved in and waiting a few weeks for this to arrive was well worth it. You can style it with or with out these glass votives, and they also come in frost finish. It truly is stunning, and having the six lights versus the dingy two creates such a gorgeous setting during dinners.
You may notice one of the biggest changes we have made to the house. We were able to order this gorgeous laminate hardwood through
in Sandy, UT. They have been my go-to flooring company for my local design clients the past few years. They are so easy to work with and always are able to beat the best local pricing when we've checked out other companies. Their service has been so great and I was very impressed with the job their installers did. We also hired them to install new baseboards, I am so pleased with the quality of work. We went with 5 1/4 height boards, and they are such a gorgeous after thought.
If you are local to Utah, I 100% recommend them. Ask for Barrett, he is so great to work with!
When I had my inital in home carpet consult Barrett had brought a few different samples ranging from $1.50 to $8 a sq ft. I had fallen in love with an expensive engineered hardwood that is identical to the flooring we had installed. I told him what I wanted to spend and he suggested this flooring, which is on sale for $1.50 a sq ft, and side by side it was hard to tell the difference. Then he did the "key test" where he literally took his car key and scratched the heck out of the sample and it didn't show any damage. I knew this was the one for us. It is a cooler wood look with a gray undertone, but next to my cooler palette it reads a lot more warm. Just the look and durability I was after.
Here is another fun "before and after" of the space, showcasing the beautiful stair transformation. I can't get enough of this new view. I have so many "stair tread with white risers" inspiration pictures saved on Pinterest, and I'm so pleased to be able to see this view every day now.
The next item of business was refinishing my dining table top. This baby has been in storage for the last 5 years, I couldn't part with it seeing as it was made in denmark and is made out of solid teak wood. I knew the look I wanted and though my efforts didn't create the outcome I wanted, I am pleased with the look. I took to youtube and watch several dry brush tutorials with chalk paint. I used
paint from the Home Depot in the 'Relic' dark gray shade and dry brushed 'Yesteryear' in a light gray over top of it. I sealed it with the same brands varnish. And no, I will not be doing a tutorial, ha. I'm by no means an expert, and found the professional videos on google super helpful.
Now to my favorite part of the design process, and that is the design details.
The initial inspiration for the space were these curtain panels that I wanted to reuse from my old home. Moving here we were able to gain an extra foot in our ceiling height, which is great, but made it so none of my curtains from the previous home would be able to work. Then I realized there was a dip in the ceiling where a vent is so I quickly measured and was estatic to find out it was the perfect height for my favorite pair of panels. So I planned my mood board and room design around these gems.
The way they frame the windows and bright some personalty to the space is just what the space needed to feel complete.
I have always loved a dining room with mix and match dining and captains chairs. I wasn't quite certain what color I wanted but knew I wanted this shape of chair. My heart skipped a beat when I found these
They were the perfect shade of deep teal that would match the curtains perfectly. I loved the tufts and nail head detail and knew they were the ones.
When looking for the dining chairs I knew, with out a doubt, I wanted to be able to fit three smaller chairs on each side of the table to seat more, and knew I for sure wanted a material that would clean easy, and was durable. I also wanted something bright and airy to keep the space light. I was estatic when I happened upon these modern feeling
I love the shape and appreciate the solid steal leg frame. Even my husband mentioned the solid feel they have. They are petite, yet so sturdy and SUCH an amazing price. The perfect look and feel to finish off the dining set.
Of course I love real, fresh flowers, but another love of mine is creating faux floral arrangements for myself and my clients. My go to place to buy the stems are
and every other week their stems go 50% off. I was able to create this pretty arrangement with the white ranculas and some velvety greenery with the vase for under $50.
Also, heres a fun fact...
We got these beautiful crystal candle sticks as a wedding gift over 12 years ago. They have sat in storage because I was afraid to get them out and have them break. I love seeing them every day displayed on the table. I have come to realize I kind of have a thing for crystal, and I just adore the detail they bring to the space.
