The Friday Five: White Night Stands

 I have had the fun opportunity to work on a few master bedrooms lately.  In all of these my clients have asked to brighten up their spaces.  One way to do so was replacing their dark, larger scale night stands with smaller scale, lighter and airier white ones.  I love the company Inspire Q... they have some fabulous options, and I was pleased to find out they were solid wood and had tongue and groove drawers.  Better yet... they are usually under $200! 

One fun way to change up a white night stand is just swapping out the hardware that comes with it.  Take the below photo.  I swapped out the satin nickle one for these oval hammered brass ones that I picked up for $2.50 each from Hobby Lobby.  It changed the overall look of the nightstand and make them appear a lot higher end, but cost only 5 bucks.  Love it!

Follow Friday: Meet The Ninow's

I had to give a little shout out and a BIG thank you to this adorable and sweet couple, Ryan and Aubree Ninow.

I met this darling couple over a year ago through my Brother and Sister in law.  They were in their wedding party and it was such a good time getting to know Aubree.  She is such a fantastic hostess and party planner, the shower she threw was perfection at its best.  I totally appreciated every tiny detail, and I loved seeing what a genuine person and friend she has been to my Sister in Law!

They recently started a blog and Youtube channel and I couldn't help but subscribe! They are sharing everything from their travels from 24 countries around the world and Healthy food recipes that are easy to make. Aubree shares her tips and tricks on beauty and weekly videos about their lives. Ryan loves to capture special moments through a lens, and loves to edit and put together videos for people to enjoy! They are one of the cutest couples I've met and I love how they display their love and friendship so naturally on the camera.  The best part is knowing that this is them, they are real... totally authentic. They are seriously one to follow!

I recently had their help on a project in the works and Ryan did some videography work for me.  They were a BLAST to work with and made my camera-shy self feel so comfortable and at ease.  He did a fabulous job on the project, I'm excited to share it with you all soon!

The Friday Five: Curtain Panels

Today's Friday Five is all about curtains!  I posted this top left picture of the teal curtains on Instagram and I have had so many comment's asking where to find them.  So, of course I had to create a post of my tried and true all time favorite curtain panels.  Instead of  creating the normal collage image I usually do for these posts, I decided to post 5 of my favorite curtain designs for you to see them in actual spaces.  I hope you enjoy them!  Scroll to the bottom of the page and they will all be linked for you!

 I love using curtains for many reasons.  The obvious is for privacy.  However, my favorite reason for incorporating them in almost every one of my designs is I love the eye candy it creates, but more importantly, when hung properly they can make the room feel larger, and the ceilings appear taller!

Take my son's nursery... It's only an 8 foot ceiling height, but ever since I hung these so close to the ceiling, and a lot wider than the actual window it creates the illusion the window is larger and ad's a nice spacious feeling to the room.

The Friday Five: Storage Benches

Storage benches are such a fun and functional addition to any room.  Whether you place them in a bedroom for extra seating, a children's space for toys or use one as an ottoman in front of a sofa, they really are such great pieces!  

 The bench in the above picture inspired me to write this post today...  This wall called for a bench and I was SO pleased to see it in person.  Not only does it fit the space perfectly, but the fabric, shape and pattern may have my client and myself smitten.  An after thought in the design is now our favorite part.  I've linked it below for you!

How To Remove Water Stains from Wood!

I am SO EXCITED to be sharing this post today!!!

Recently my Dad called be asking which of my kids were in their formal living room the other day?  I could tell by the distress in his voice that one of them did something not so great.  He then preceded to tell me that their antique table, the one that was carried across the plains, had a puddle of water on it for who knows how long.  It was ruined. 

You can imagine how terrible I felt!  My 3 year old was looking for candy in the candy jar and must have spilled her cup of water and not told me to clean it up.  Here is what it looked like... White and Gray stains that seemed impossible to remove!

I hopped on google (man's best friend) and I saw from Today's Homeowner to try using an IRON and thick TOWEL to remove the stains!?!

It sounded crazy enough to try!

 With that I headed over to my parent's to give it a try, thinking it was pretty much hopeless.  I got the iron, turned OFF the steam setting, put it on medium heat and an old hand towel and I went to work!  I worked on the small table for about 45 minutes, but when I was done the marks looked almost gone!  The trick was to slightly rub the iron back and forth until it felt tacky... this meant the water was being absorbed by the towel and I lifted the iron and got a dry part of the towel and repeated... press... rub... press... rub...  My arm was tired after, but it was well worth it!  

I saved the antique table!

 I then grabbed my mom's Old English scratch remover and lemon oil and rubbed a soft towel on the tables surface for about 5 minutes, first the scratch remover then the lemon oil.  Not only did the stains come out, but after using the Old English it looked BETTER than it did before the damage.  Pretty awesome product, if I don't say so myself!

We all were more than THRILLED with the results!  Days later it still looks good as new.  It took a little time and elbow grease, but well worth it to save such an heirloom!

Room Reveal: Master Bedroom

I am so thrilled to be revealing my recently designed master bedroom!  This room has been a long time coming, and it is so very nice to finally have the sanctuary I've dreamed about for so long.  I don't know what it is about a master bedroom always being put on the back burner...?  Most of my clients do the same, they just let their master be their 'catch-all' and just shut the door and not worry about it... out of sight out of mind.  That's what I always did.  But, for the last few weeks with my room fully designed, I not only go to be and wake up happy, but it just for whatever reason makes my day smoother, makes my life a little more organized... and flat out just makes me happy and content.

 I have always swooned over the restoration hardware 11-drawer tall dressers... but they are more than this entire room combined, so I had the idea to put two malm ikea dressers side by side to create the scale of the RH ones more a much better price... and I mean MUCH better.  I'm still looking for the perfect hardware, but all in all I love the look it creates!  Having that much storage for my husband I isn't too shabby either.

 This roll top desk was my Grandmother's and I converted it into my vanity.  It's so nice having a place to sit every morning to put on my makeup and be able to hide all of my mess.  

 I'm not a fan of bedding sets.  It was a good time piecing together this look from my favorite discounted shops.  This is my go to set up with staging beds.  I love a symmetrical pillow look, easy on the eye and easy to make.  Best of both worlds. 

I don't love a ton of clutter on a night stand, a lamp and a picture frame are enough for me, but I love hanging something on the wall behind a night stand, a canvas like this, picture frame or even a mirror, I love adding that little depth and it creates a nice subtle pop in the room.

 Curtains are a must in every room I design.  You can see in this picture that it just makes the space.  Add's the right amount of softness and depth... and let's be honest... is a little bit of eye candy!

 Oh, how I am such a fan of a pretty chandelier in a master.  It add's the perfect amount of romance and whimsy... and it's always a good idea to have crystal's involved.

I've adored making room for a sitting chair in my room, also.  It's the perfect spot to relax and enjoy this haven.  My Grandma told me this week that as a young busy mother with a business to run as well it's so important to give yourself an 'oasis' to retreat to each day... even if just only for ten minutes a day.  I love the idea that this room will be my own oasis, to relax and reflect in.

The Friday Five: Oil Rubbed Bronze Chandeliers

 I have had chandelier's on the brain the last several weeks, and while browsing I have realized I  seem to be so drawn to dark oil rubbed bronze transitional ones.  There is just something about the contrast of black in a design that I love.  Seeing them hung create such a dramatic statement I can't get enough of!

  Chandelier's are the icing on the cake in design.  You could get away with not having a decorative one put in, but when you take that extra time and money... it seems to be a subtle addition that adds such a statement.  Take these chandelier's in the above picture... They were under $100 each and create such a wow-factor in the room.  Proof that budget friendly decorating is possible.  For info on this room see previous post here.

Client Reveal: Front Porch Makeover

Here is a quick project I did recently.

My client asked if I could do an e-design for her so she could spruce up her front porch.  I whipped this up for her and we love how the space turned out.
